The refugee colony

Ruth also visited a refugee colony situated on the outskirts of Islamabad – known as Shopper’s City – because most people were living under plastic and old cloth. When we began working in this camp, there was no fresh water, electricity or sewerage systems.

Today, many of the dwellings have water, toilets and access to a sewerage system. The charity also provides roofing for those dwellings which are brick built.

Aim for Change provides brick dwellings for widows with children, and now a pre-school has begun in a room of another home in the colony. Aim for Change was able to upgrade the sewerage system serving the school.

We have been told that some parents are also sending their children to the pre-school because they cannot afford to pay for school.

The charity also supports a number of Muslim people who live alongside Christians in the colony.
